A working group of civil servants and businessmen assigned by the Head of State to this region traveled to Uralsk to assess the current situation, inspect the construction progress of residential buildings for the affected people, and develop a plan for urgent measures to restore the region, as reported by the Kazinform agency.
The delegation was met by the akim of the region, Nariman Turegaliev. During the visit, the group visited the main evacuation center — the «Sayakhat» hotel, the village of Podstepnoye in the Terectinsky district, which was almost completely submerged due to floods, and the country community «1-Dachnaya,» which was most affected by flooding.
Following the trip, a meeting on flood aftermath elimination issues was held at the akimat of the region.
— I think it’s a right decision that they «attached us, businessmen, to the areas» like this. We see a specific problem and make decisions here, on the spot, negotiate with developers to buy around 300 apartments in newly built houses and resettle people into new homes faster, — said Nurlan Smagulov.
Earlier, Vice Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbaev announced that about 18 large companies and businessmen were assigned to the six most flood-affected regions of Kazakhstan.
For the West Kazakhstan region, those responsible include: the company «Astana Motors» and its founder Nurlan Smagulov, as well as other businessmen owning large companies and banks — BI Group, Jusan Bank (Galimzhan Yesenov), CJSC «Bank Center Credit» (Bakhytbek Baisalov), LLP «KazAzot» (LLP «Kazakhstan Petrochemicals» — 85%, Bakharidin Ablazimov — 15%) and KPO b.v (Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V.), GC Allageum Electric (Erkebulan Ilyasov), company Qazaq Stroy (Artykbaev Nurlan).
On Monday, May 20, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenev, chaired a working meeting on implementing the instructions of the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, regarding flood aftermath elimination and the progress of restoration works.
